151x150 gm Staff Gerry Mussett – Company Director

It seems like I have been around forever but basically graduated in industrial design from RMIT in 1978 and from then have basically worked for myself with varying degrees of success. Currently I have a great team around me and Sprocket has moved into design and manufacturing and expanded internationally which is something that never occurred to me would happen. It means quite a lot of travel but I think we have successfully launched a great story with lots of exciting things to come.

I wish I had more free moments to think of what I would do if I had free moments.

My favorite Artist, Author, Designer or Product? Aaah that’s easy it has to be Luigi Colani for design, JP Donleavy for writing and Emily Kame Kngwarreye for art.

If I won the Melbourne cup I would need to be swabbed.

If I was given the choice of keys to any hire car, what would it be? Well, any Aston Martin.

If I could visit one natural wonder, it would be Mount Everest but only to look at it…

151x150 cf Staff Cheryl Fraser – General Manager

Having completed my Industrial Design Degree at RMIT, I moved into stage and set design for a short period before landing a role at Form Australia a product design consultancy in Melbourne. Throughout the next decade we experienced a name change, location change and even company direction change which culminated in the creation of Sprocket – the illustrious technology and manufacturing design firm to which I have been recently appointed General Manager. I feel privileged to have been able to help mould the company into the market leader it is today and over the years have had the pleasure of working with many talented designers, been presented with numerous Design Awards and also kindly invited to judge many others. Sprocket certainly has stars in its future and I look forward to continuing the space odyssey with my great friend, colleague and mentor Gerry Mussett.

In my free moments I am either doing a renovation rescue on my new apartment or mapping out new choreography for my group fitness classes.

I like to surround myself with everything that inspires me or triggers my imagination – classic design books, pop up cards, quirky Japanese objects, Pixar figurines, Dewalt power tools, Florence Broadhurst wallpaper – the list goes on!

If I won the Melbourne cup I would give generously and invest wisely.

If I was given the choice of keys to any hire car it would have to be a Porsche 356 A Speedster in classic black or silver.

I’d like to experience the silence of the Himalayas and the Northern Lights during the Midsummer Festival in Finland.

151x150 rs Staff Ric Santilli – Studio Manager

Graduated RMIT Industrial Design in 1987 and since I have worked as a designer since for a number of companies within a fairly wide range of industries. My career to date has seen me work on products such as, Automotive (Holden Commodore Interior Compartments), Medical (UBS Blood Tester), Mobility Aids (PTS Electric Scooter), Industrial (Hawk Acoustic Depth Sensor & PDL Switchgear) Consumer (PDL Personal Heaters) and of course Interactive Kiosks with Sprocket, among many others. I joined the Sprocket team in 2001 and have enjoyed the variety and dynamic nature of projects that we have been involved in, with particular personal satisfaction gained through the smooth and efficient deployment of Express Smart Library Kiosks and the opportunity to be involved in Auto design. I enjoy a challenge and look for the details that help stream line design and assembly processes.

I enjoy spending time with my family and keeping up to date with technology developments which are sometimes mutually exclusive, so I am told! Watching my two daughters grow and blossom is a constant source of joy, satisfaction and grey hairs. With an urge to tinker since childhood I will tackle any repair or creative task that I can get my teeth into … sometimes biting off more than I can chew… we are always learning!

With relatively conservative tastes I do appreciate the crisp lines and taught flowing curves of Pininfarina Designed cars and as for furniture, an old favourite is the Mackintosh chair.

If I won the Melbourne Cup, it could be possible that all you have and are reading is perhaps fictitious.

If I was given the choice of keys to a car, the list would be long and I’m not sure my choices would be available, but a Zonda Type R would be a must, otherwise a 458 Ferrari Italia would appease and then there is the Veyron…

While not a surfer or all that great in the water for that matter, witnessing the power of the ocean at Cortes Bank with 70ft waves would have to be a humbling sight.

151x150 sh Staff Simon Heyes – Project Manager

Educated in Industrial Design at RMIT prior to working at Form Australia. I returned to Europe and worked within a number of design disciplines; product, industrial, interior, exhibition and museum. Although a year was spent in Milan, Italy, most of my time was based in London working on projects ranging from sporting goods (ski boots and bindings / running shoes), medical equipment (glucometers / diagnostic device) to international trade shows and museum interiors. On returning to Australia I have been part of the Sprocket team, pushing progress as Project Manager. The recent volume deployments of the TABCORP Kiosks (throughout Conrad’s Casinos) and the ANZ T Series Ticketing Kiosk have been both challenging and rewarding!

In my free moments, when not dealing with kiosk logistics, you’ll find me riding my VTR 1000 motorbike, cycling, swimming or playing music –traditional Irish / Celtic fiddle! I’ve recently re-discovered photography, and been reminded of the complexities of achieving a decent shot.

My favorite Artist, Author, Designer or Product. Where to start…..but from a product point of view –the Spring type clothes peg –it took until the mid 19th century to be invented -now they are commonly found everywhere, and used for all manner of purposes….ingenious!

I would never win the Melbourne Cup due to lack of preparation; company projects are yet to allow us to take the Monday beforehand as a holiday!!!

If I was given the choice of keys to any hire car, what would it be? Cardinal Britten V1000: Britten Motorcycle Company (Motorbike)

If I could visit one natural wonder, what would it be? Ive never stood at the mouth of a Live Volcano –that would be fun!!

My work history involves many, many jobs in several different countries. These include but are not limited to Electronics assembly and testing in the UK, building a steel hulled yacht in Amsterdam and filling sandbags in Israel. Having settled in Australia in 2001 I have taken a more holistic approach and am now found just as happy at the PC as I am with an angle-grinder in hand.

Being a nerd its hard to keep me from the computer for long but I also enjoy fishing, gold prospecting and even spending time with my family occasionally.

If I won the Melbourne cup I would spend the money buying greyhounds – a much classier form of racing.

The ideal hire car for the day would probably be a large luxury vehicle like a Rolls or a Bentley, and then take it to a demolition derby and see how hard they are to break.

I would like to visit South America and see any of its wonders – Machu Picchu or Victoria Falls.

151x150 ec Staff Edwin Conan -Industrial Designer
Born and grown up in Shanghai, under the influence of my grandfather, at age 12 I developed an interest in product design and manufacturing. I came to Melbourne in 2005 to study industrial design in RMIT. While studying, I worked as a contract industrial designer designing hand tools and power tools. After graduation, I was fortunate to start my career as an industrial designer in Sprocket and found myself surrounded by very talented people. Being the youngest Sprocket member, I am learning and discovering new things everyday.

As an aircraft and car enthusiast and an avid model maker, I enjoy keeping my hands busy with a model kit while watching or listening the documentary about any object that I am building.

If I won the Melbourne Cup: I will worry about that when I won it.

If I was given the choice of keys to any hire car, it has to be a 1966 Alfa Romeo GTA, I would love to look at it, touch it, drive it, smell it, find out that it break down, then get out of it, look at it, fix it, and drive it again.

If I could visit one natural wonder, I would like to go into the space and see the curvature of the earth.

151x150 mw Staff Mark Walsh – Software Development ManagerMark has worked in the multimedia and web development industry for over 10years.

He has comprehensive experience in all the design and technical issues involved in the production of online training products, application design, digital imaging, Web based animation, Web site construction and SCORM based delivery systems.I’m currently digitising my backlog of analogue photography. But I’m doing it the old school way, using a Nikon PB-4 Bellows and Film adapter hooked up to a D700.

My favorite Photographer is Geoffrey Crewdson although Eric Lafforgue on Flickr is a very close 2nd…check him out.

My favorite product designer is Giorgetto Giugiaro. Highlights being the Nikon F4 and the Lotus Esprit

My favorite product is currently the Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic Wristwatch

If I won the Melbourne cup I’d buy a better suit and dine out every night.

If I was given the choice of keys to any hire car, what would it be? If could choose it would be have to be either a Mercedes 380 SEL, or a Maserati GranTurismo.

I still haven’t seen the Pyramids. I need to do that. Also high on the the list is the Stomatolites at shark bay; millions of years old, that’s real time travelling.

151x150 kb Staff Kevin Banfield- Accounts

I have been doing ‘books’ for more years than I care to remember but have also been a teacher, a stay at home parent and worked in the wine trade. So that means I can reconcile a bank statement whist looking after a two year old and drinking a wonderful glass of Burgundy about which I have a fairly complete understanding of the chemistry. I have professional qualifications in chemistry and bookkeeping and a few other bits of paper in the filing cabinet.

When not working, I might be pulling weeds out of the garden, trying to make things from bits of wood, trying to source all that obscure music I listened to in the sixties and early seventies or looking for that elusive recipe amongst the more than 400 cookery books on the shelves.

My current favourite products are my Japanese kitchen knives. A marvel of function and image.

If I won the Melbourne cup…..I’d be a race horse.

My choice of hire car would be one with a driver as I don’t drive. If I did, then Mt T’s van from the A-Team.

My natural wonder I’d like to see would be either the aurora borealis or the aurora australis.
